Checking protected document

How to check the file is protected or not ? File can be office 2003 file or office 2007 file or PDFs or ZIPs.

Protected in what way?
Need information on a function I've posted? Chances are it's at the MSDN.

Different files have different methods of implementing password protection. For ZIP you can find that information in the ZIP specification (Google should help you find that), for Office 2007 that might also be public, for Office 2003 you might be out of luck since I believe that is a proprietary format and I do not know of any APIs to work with those files.
