Ideas..

Postby cplusplusn00b11 » Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:48 pm

Hello, I am very interested in math and physics. I love computer programming also, but I'm at a lose of ideas when it comes to incorporating math and physics into a program that I can make. Do you have any ideas?

I'm only 15 by the way so nothing extremely compilcated, but just anything that you think would be cool to make I would love to hear about it. Thankyou!

Here's a list of things to program that require Math or Physics:
* Ray tracing (geometry, some optics)
* Cryptography (number theory)
* A go program that uses Monte Carlo techniques (statistics)
* Collision detection for video games (geometry)
* A physics engine for video games (mechanics)
* Sound effects (signal processing)

Hmm...

Ray Tracing.. ( No idea. Will look into after post. )
Cryptography.. ( Same as Above ^ )
A go program that uses Monte Carlo Techniques ( Above ^ )
Collision detection for Video Games ( Something I've been very interested in for along time and also something I really want to know how it works. I've heard people talking about it and other things but I am fascinated by it, and this would be my main choice if I wasn't working with a console. )
A phsyics engine for Video games ( Don't really know how that would work, but this would be another thing that I think would be incredible!! )
Sound Effects ( Interesting, but not for me. I Would much rather work with collision detection or a physics engine. )

Both the Physics engine and the Collision detection fascinate me beyond measure, and I'm so curious as to how they work. So I will look into them, Although I'm pretty certiain that there is no way you can work with them through a console application, but I do really want to get into that kind of stuff. Thankyou for your input Alvaro, if you want to explain any of those things to me that would be great. Otherwise I'll go look em up on google. Thankyou!

Google and Wikipedia are your friends. I however suggest focusing at one thing at a time. Once you feel comfortable you can move onto something else, but taking on too many things at the same time tends to back fire.

I'm not saying that I would create both of those, I would just look at how both of them are created and used.

What kind of math are you doing right now? What do you know about physics so far? I imagine just along the lines of distance = rate * time so far, but knowing what you do know might give light into the types of programs you might enjoy.
Need information on a function I've posted? Chances are it's at the MSDN.

Well.. That's the thing. I mean I'm in Geometry right now, which to me doesn't work well with Console Applications. And As for physics... :(

I'm taking A.P Physics next year, but as for this year, no physics for me. It's just that my interests are more in the mathamatical sciences like chemistry and physics rather then biology or something like that, and as you may have seen in previous posts, I feel like I'm just sick of making applications that don't have a point or purpose and are just games, or something to fool around with.
