Mean of a probability density function

Postby DannyBoy » Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:45 am

I have a probability density function (PDF) Image where Image and therefore Image.

So, the mean of Image can be written Image.

Now, I have Image.

As t tends to infinity, this tends to the mean of r. My question is, when is this a "good" approximation? Is it when t is much larger than the mean of the PDF? Or does it depend on something else?
