Debian's apt-get

Postby DoNtShOotMe » Thu Nov 17, 2005 6:05 am

Hi guys,

I've got recently a live Morphix CD(Debian variant) and installed it onto an spare HDD i have, and beeing a complete :newbie: at linux I've managed to get almost everything up, except Sound and a C/C++ compiler...

After digging in the net i found about a program called apt-get that installs gcc, witch, after that i can use to compile ALSA drivers for the sound. Ive tried to find the package for gnu-gcc but i cant invoke the command properly ( :newbie: )!

Does anyone have knowledge about apt-get and give me a hand?
Crazy?!?! Who says I'm crazy? The world is crazy, I am the single sane person in this friggin place!.

No idea about apt-get, never had much luck with it myself, although I never really used it to begin with.

But you can get a copy of gcc here http://gcc.gnu.org/

With yum (which I think is fedora/red hats apt-get equivalent) it's usually enough to write yum install <package/program name>

Have you checked man apt-get? (man apt)

you could always try apt-get install alsa-drivers alsa-libs alsa-headers, that should get u everything you need to get alsa up and running, afterwards just start alsa through the init script.
