code not working...

I am trying to make an application have an edit window but am unable to process the messages.

Code: Select all
#include <windows.h>
#include <string>
#include  <stdio.h>
#define ID_1 1000
#define ID_2 1001
#define blah 1003
    HWND mainwin;
    HWND hwnd2;
char ID_ONE;
/*  Declare Windows procedure  */
LRESULT CALLBACK Proc2 (HWND, UINT, WPARAM, LPARAM);

/*  Make the class name into a global variable  */
char szClassName[ ] = "WindowsApp";

int WINAPI WinMain (HINSTANCE hThisInstance,
                    HINSTANCE hPrevInstance,
                    LPSTR lpszArgument,
                    int nFunsterStil)

{
             /* This is the handle for our window */
    MSG messages;            /* Here messages to the application are saved */

You can't use a control as a standalone window just like this. The default controls have their own message handler functions. You better create a new dialog window and add the EDIT control to this as child.

There is a way to handle control's messages yourself, but you really shouldn't do it unless you are sure you need it. It is called subclassing, you can read about it here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb773183%28v=vs.85%29.aspx.
Who needs a signature anyway.
