IDE advice -- what's best?

Postby biot023 » Sun Mar 19, 2006 12:55 pm

Hallo -- I actually work in Ruby at the moment, and before that in PHP & Java, so it's been some time since I played w/ CPP.
Basically, I want to get back into hobbyist game coding.
I don't have much in the way of spare cash for IDEs, so was wondering if there are any free/inexpensive IDEs anyone could reccommend.
I use Eclipse for Java & Ruby stuff -- does anyone here have experience w/ Eclipse for CPP?

I suggest you Dev-C++ and Code::Blocks. I don't really like Code::blocks but you should give it a try. Both are free.

Dont forget VC++ Express
Need information on a function I've posted? Chances are it's at the MSDN.

Cheers for those -- I'll look into them!
I've also experimented a little w/ CDT for Eclipse, and have been quite impressed so far.
I've only done a quick Hello World, though, so will still be exploring alternatives.
Thanks again for your replies,
